Yasawa-I-Rara

Yasawa-I-Rara is in the northwest part of the islands that comprise Fiji.
It is the location for the filming of the 1980 Brooke Shields movie "The Blue Lagoon."

 

 

Viti Levu Island (Lautoka and Nadi)

The largest island of the over 300 that comprise the nation of Fiji, it is home to the capital of Suva, international airport at Nadi and the sugar industry in Lautoka.

Fiji has a large Indian minority - originally brought in by the British as colonial administrators

These men are wearing the traditional men's wrap known as a sulu. The one on the left has a straight hem, used by civilians.
The white sulu's jagged edge is reserved for military and police.

The Sri Siva Subramaniya Hundu temple is located at the southern end of the main road through Nadi. It is the largest Hindu temple in the southern hemisphere.


One of the largest employers on the main Fijian island of Viti Levu, the national sugar company at one point was the primary industry - it has been replaced by tourism. It still remains a major part of the economy.
